The GTMatrix brief in this case was to provide school-bound travel for students arriving into London Heathrow airport.
Three of our clients, all based geographically close to each other, wished to offer international students a regular school-bound travel service from Heathrow at the beginning of term and end of half term.
The challenge for each school was providing a service which caters for flight arrivals throughout the day as well as having staff on the ground at Heathrow. Because flights arrive at all times from early morning to late evening, the individual schools have found this very challenging to operationalise and coordinate.
When parents were surveyed the most common observation was the lack of flexibility in the airport coach service leading to extended pupil waiting at the airport. The second major comment was the difficulty caused when long haul flights arrive early in the morning with no school presence at the airport.
GTMatrix coordinated with the schools concerned and agreed protocols that would allow them to share transport on common travel days. Flight data was analysed and coaches booked and scheduled to coincide with popular arrival times.
We also expanded our Airport Guardians team to cater for the additional days of coverage required.
With scheduled coach times, parents can now make an informed choice when booking flights to choose the best arrival time. The students enjoy a cost-effective and simple return to school, the cost of which is added to the school bill.
The schools can use the presence of Airport Guardians and the scheduled service to demonstrate a high degree of care from the point of arrival into the UK. Many parents are known to accompany younger students back to school, which is expensive, time consuming and environmentally undesirable. The GTMatrix ‘Arrivals to School ‘ service gives both parents and schools confidence that the welfare of the students is catered for throughout their journey.
